Book an appointmentScott Ramey has spent thirty years inside high-consequence systems, first as a critical care flight paramedic, then as a Deputy Chief in both paramedic and fire services, and as an Assistant Fire Chief. He knows what decisions look like when the information is incomplete, the clock is running, and the outcome matters. He has also led the quieter work that determines whether those decisions get easier or harder over time: accreditation, quality systems, strategic planning, and technology adoption. As Principal Investigator, Scott secured and led a $2 million federally funded artificial intelligence research program with Defence Research and Development Canada, examining how AI can support emergency response resource allocation and decision making. That work now carries forward on two fronts. At the University of Waterloo, he is a PhD candidate in Systems Design Engineering, where his human factors research focuses on trust calibration and appropriate reliance in AI-assisted decision support. As founder of HazReady, he is building emergency intelligence software now in evaluation with Canadian fire services. The combination is deliberate. Scott is an operator who became a human factors engineer, and a researcher who ships working software. Clients get advice that is grounded in evidence, tested against operational reality, and honest about where technology should not go. When a workflow should not be automated, he will say so, and say why. Scott works with fire and emergency services, healthcare organizations, municipalities, and technology companies through advisory relationships, defined projects, and fractional or interim executive mandates. Scott holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Quality from Queen's University and a Bachelor of Health Sciences from Medicine Hat College. He is a Certified Healthcare Executive, a Certified Municipal Manager III (Executive), and a peer assessor with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International. His human factors research is published in peer-reviewed venues, and his service has been recognized with exemplary service honours from the Governor General of Canada.
